Udobizness of The Week - Viki’s Kitchen

This week, we explore the culinary wing of Udobiz with Viki’s Kitchen.

Viki’s Kitchen is into food catering for any kind of occasion, such as indoor/outdoor parties, office events and daily/weekend food delivery for individual orders. They take on a wide range of catering options from sack catering like cakes and small chops to full course catering involving assorted dishes. Victoria Thompson is the great mind behind this venture, and she was kind enough to share some of her interests with us which include reading, cooking, watching movies, visiting places of interest and meeting great minds.

Viki’s Kitchen has been open since 2017 but only recently joined social media on the 6th of March 2020 in an attempt to modernize the business and gain access to a larger crowd. According to Victoria, this did attract more clients but opened up a new can of worms; keeping up with demand and sudden growth. She admitted having to take out loans to buy new equipment while also having to face the challenge of keeping her prices reasonable. Note that the overall cost also includes delivery. One of the ways she is managed to keep costs low is by buying equipment and food materials in bulk; that way she gets wholesale prices. Victoria aims to make her business into a global venture and even though she admits that businesswise, she would rather be in a better position than she currently is, she is still grateful for the small victories because they keep her motivated and focused in her strive to reach her bigger goal.


Victoria also told us how she absolutely loves client interaction and that the directive at Viki’s Kitchen is to treat all clients like royalty. For her, this builds a bond of trust and loyalty between both parties and ensures client retention. This bond as well as the high standards she sets for her prepared meals and catering options is what she believes sets her apart from the competition. For her, the aim is not to fixate on others but rather become so great that the business is in a league of its own. She has every intention and drive to fulfil this ambition.

Victoria believes that Nigeria is a good place for business growth and development due to the large population. She believes that to make it as an entrepreneur in Nigeria, you have to always stick to your plan and find a way to be unique. She also mentioned that ensuring a low turnover rate by keeping employee morale high is a necessity. She gave some bullet points on how she manages to keep morale high at Viki’s kitchens. They are:

  • Communicate often
  • Solicit employee feedback
  • Make firm business decisions
  • Create an effective incentive program
  • Use social media to praise employees
  • Have fun

As a woman in business, Victoria claims not to have encountered any known difficulties due to her gender but does acknowledge that she is a special case. Her advice to other women in business is to be bold in whatever decision they make, as well as courageous enough to stand up for themselves and block out the noise before it becomes a problem. Also, as always, be unique.
